USU: Global Talent in Washington D.C

The Ukrainian Students Union (USU) invites applications for its Congressional Internship.Program, anticipated to commence in the second week of May 2024 in Washington D.C., United States. This initiative is designed to select, train, and empower the next generation of Ukrainian leaders to engage in critical roles within Ukraine’s political landscape, public service, and beyond. Interns will be placed in the offices of U.S. Representatives, gaining firsthand experience in public policy and the workings of the U.S. legislative system.

The program enjoys support from the Verkhovna Rada and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Duties include engaging in research, organizing meetings, supporting legislative projects, and other key tasks.


Internship Duration and Start Date:


The internship will last for no less than 6 weeks. While the preferred start date is in the second week of May, we understand the need for flexibility due to the varying exam schedules of students. Therefore, we will work with selected candidates to determine an appropriate start date that considers their academic obligations.


A successful candidate would fit these criteria:

  • A deep interest in Ukrainian and U.S. politics, international relations, and bilateral relations between Ukraine and the U.S.
  • Proficiency in Ukrainian and English; additional language skills are an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to promoting positive change through public policy and democratic values in Ukraine.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication abilities.
  • Active participation in the political life of Ukraine, through practical or academic means.
  • A willingness to contribute to the ongoing success of the USU Global Talent Program.

Programme Objectives

Educate

Select, Train and Empower Ukraine's future leaders to take critical positions in Ukraine's politics, civil Service, civil society, and private sector to Build Appropriate capacity and design policy to advance Ukraine's nation interest .

Integrate

Critical to American track of the Programme is, thus, to improve knowledge of and immerse young Ukrainian professionals and students into their inner core of US institutions, which is critical, given the growing importance of the bilateral relations between Ukraine and the Unites States of America

Rejuvenate

The Program seeks to achieve this by recruiting a network of young Ukrainians and building the appropriate partnerships with external friends of Ukraine.

Eligibility Criteria

A profound understanding of Ukrainian and U.S. politics, international affairs, and Ukraine-U.S. relations.
Proficiency in Ukrainian and English; additional language skills are an asset.
Active participation in the political life of Ukraine, through practical or academic means.
