University of Leeds

About us

The Ukrainian Society at the University of Leeds was officially established on May 15th, 2025, by enthusiastic students united through their passion for Ukrainian culture and identity.  Since then, we have brought together over 25 students – from Kyiv to Crimea, and from Donetsk to Lviv – building a sense of belonging and support.

Our society was created to provide something that was missing: a safe, welcoming space for Ukrainian students, and a platform to share our rich heritage within the University of Leeds.

We bring people together by organising various social events, featuring traditional cuisine dinners, themed holiday celebrations, film screenings, pub quizzes, and sports activities.

Furthermore, members of our society actively participate in events organised by the Leeds Ukrainian Association and volunteer with the camouflage net-making initiative TENETA, demonstrating our commitment to supporting and strengthening the wider Ukrainian community in Leeds.

Recognising the importance of support, the University of Leeds administration provides help to students who wish to take part in social events but encounter financial difficulties. The “Plus Programme” (1) is a great opportunity for students to access resources and stay socially active. Moreover, the University offers a Ukrainian beginner's discovery module (2) for all those interested in learning the Ukrainian language.
